Understanding Morgan County Releases
Release means that Morgan County Jail no longer holds the person under the booking at issue. It does not always mean the person returned home. A bond, court order, completed local sentence, dismissal, transfer, other-agency pickup, state commitment, or detainer can all end the county jail stay. The release record should identify the date and the type of departure. A transfer must be followed into the receiving system.
The Morgan County Sheriff's Office operates the local jail. Its record covers booking, local custody, bond status, release, and transfer information maintained by the agency. Georgia Department of Corrections records apply after commitment to state custody. Court files explain the order or case result behind a release. VINE may signal a custody change, but it is not a complete booking archive or court disposition.
- Discharge
- An end to a term or custody status, often used in state corrections records.
- Time served
- Release after the required local jail term is satisfied, including credited time.
- Detainer
- A hold from another authority that can prevent a person from leaving after the local basis for custody ends.
- Transfer
- Movement out of the jail and into another agency's custody, not necessarily release into the community.
Morgan County Jail Release Types
The release reason determines where the next reliable record will appear. A jail notation is a custody fact, not a final ruling on every charge. Pair it with the court docket when the reason depends on bond, dismissal, sentence, or another judicial action.
| Release type | What it means | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | The person left jail while the case may remain pending. | Jail record and Magistrate or Superior Court docket |
| Time served or sentence complete | The local confinement term ended. | Release record and sentencing order |
| Court order or dismissal | A judge or case action authorized release. | Court disposition and jail record |
| GDC transfer | County custody ended as state custody began. | GDC offender search |
| Other agency or detainer | Another authority assumed or continued custody. | Receiving agency, BOP, ICE, or court record |
Morgan County Release Record Fields
A useful request asks for the booking and release entry together. That tie avoids confusing people with similar names and preserves the custody timeline. Charges shown at booking are not necessarily the final court disposition.
| Field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | The person connected to the jail event |
| Booking number and time | The specific admission and start of custody |
| Arresting agency and charges | The agency and allegations held at booking |
| Bond status | Whether bond was involved in release |
| Release date and time | When Morgan County Jail custody ended |
| Release reason | Bond, time served, court action, transfer, pickup, detainer, or another recorded type |
| Holds or detainers | Why physical departure may have been delayed or redirected |
| Booking photograph | An image if retained and legally available |
Request Morgan County Release Records
Morgan County does not publish a person-by-person recent-release feed. Use the county's Open Records Request Form. It names Kim Cox as custodian, provides ORR@morgancountyga.gov, and asks whether the request concerns the Sheriff's Office. Mark that choice for a jail record.
- Give the full name and date of birth if known.
- Provide the booking date, arrest date, or a narrow date range.
- Add an incident or booking number, charge, deputy, or arresting agency when available.
- Ask for booking date and time, release date and time, release reason, bond status, and any public transfer or detainer note.
- Request a booking photograph separately if it is needed and legally available.
The Sheriff's Office and jail are at 1380 Monticello Road, Madison, GA 30650. The office number is (706) 342-1507, and the jail line is (706) 342-2164. A custodian may withhold protected portions while releasing public parts. Ask for the legal basis for any withholding.
Be precise about the copy sought. A release-focused request can ask for the booking register entry, booking sheet, bond-release notation, time-served entry, transfer document, and public property or funds-release information. Request access rather than copies if inspection is enough. The county form lets the requester choose access or a copy, supply an email address, and describe an accident or incident when that detail applies. A narrow request is easier to identify and less likely to produce unrelated material.
State records take a different route. GDC uses its own open-records portal for state correctional files, while a judicial order comes from the court that entered it. Magistrate Court records can explain first appearance and bond. Superior Court files may contain the later disposition, sentence, probation order, revocation, or discharge. A single Morgan County release may therefore require two or three documents to show custody, the court basis, and later supervision accurately.
Georgia Release Record Access
Georgia's Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq., makes most government records available while preserving legal exceptions. GDC's open-records page states that the department provides an initial response within three business days, charges ten cents per nonmedical copy, and may bill search or redaction time at the lowest qualified employee's rate. Morgan County uses its own county form for Sheriff's Office records.
Record restriction can reduce public visibility. The Georgia record-restriction process routes arrests before July 1, 2013 through the arresting agency and later arrests through the prosecutor. O.C.G.A. § 35-3-37 governs eligible criminal-history restrictions. A restricted or sealed result does not alter the historic custody event, but public portals may no longer display it.
Find Morgan County Released Inmates
A live jail list answers who is held now. Once released, the person normally drops from that view. No official Morgan County 24-hour or 72-hour release list was found, so the reliable sequence starts with the jail and the county form.
- Call Morgan County Jail to check whether the person remains in local custody.
- Submit the county form for a booking and release record when the person is no longer listed.
- Search the Georgia offender system if state commitment or transfer is possible.
- Check Magistrate Court for early bond action and the Superior Court docket for case disposition.
- Use VINE for a custody change, BOP for a federal sentence, or ICE when an immigration transfer is possible.
GDC Morgan County Release Search
Use Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender when the person entered state custody. Search results may include a GDC ID, photo, physical description, major offense, most recent institution, maximum possible release date, actual release date, current status, sentence entries, aliases, and incarceration history. GDC warns that a photograph displays automatically when available.
Start with the GDC offender query and compare identifiers, not just names. “Actual release date” and “current status” matter more than the maximum date when confirming a past discharge. Written verification goes to Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029.
A maximum possible date is not the same as a promised release. Sentence calculation, jail credit, a later court order, parole action, an added hold, or a transfer can change the public timeline. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles publishes a Tentative Parole Month lookup for eligible state inmates. A TPM remains tentative and can be postponed or canceled. Use the Release Date Lookup to separate a county earned-time date, GDC maximum date, parole TPM, and actual discharge date.
The official GDC query form shows the state search path before a person is selected.
Those fields help separate state-prison history from a Morgan County Jail release. If a result is unclear, use written verification instead of treating a partial name match as conclusive.
Morgan County Recent Release Limits
The official Sheriff's Office navigation did not expose a rolling release feed, a jail roster with release dates, or a sheriff app for recent releases. Search results from Morgan County, Alabama and Morgan County, Missouri are wrong jurisdictions. Use the Georgia county domain and confirm the Madison address before relying on a result. The 24-Hour Releases and 72-Hour Releases workflows explain how to request narrow date ranges.
For a same-day check, first ask whether the jail can confirm current custody or a recent departure. If a formal record is needed, give the exact calendar day and ask for the public booking-and-release entries within that window. A three-day check uses the same method with a defined start and end date. VINE can add notice of a status change, and the court search can explain a bond order, but neither produces the Sheriff's Office release register.
Dates should be compared carefully. A court order may precede the actual jail departure while staff complete checks, property return, transport, or another hold review. A VINE alert may arrive after the agency updates its feed. The release record's date and time is the local custody marker; the docket supplies the judicial context. When they appear inconsistent, request both records rather than choosing the first timestamp shown online.
Morgan County Post-Release Supervision
Parole and probation are different. Parole follows a prison release decision by the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. Felony probation is imposed by a court. Field supervision for both is handled by the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. The Post-Release Supervision page covers the Board's TPM lookup and the DCS Milledgeville office serving Morgan County.
Morgan County Release Alerts
Georgia VINE supports name or ID searches and may allow phone, email, text, or app notifications. An out-of-custody result is a status signal, not a complete release certificate. Verify the date and reason with the jail or court. The VINE Inmate Check gives the registration sequence.
When registering, open the matching person result, select the current notification option, choose an offered channel, and retain the confirmation information. Phone registration may require a PIN to acknowledge a call. If the person moves to another agency, check the new custody record because a notification tied to one feed may not explain the transfer. No VINE result does not prove that the person was never held.
For a federal sentence, use the BOP Inmate Locator. A past date with no facility can mean release from BOP custody, though supervision or other custody may remain. ICE's locator applies after an immigration transfer. Neither replaces the Morgan County jail record.
Morgan County Custody Source Match
Match the source to the last custody system. One search cannot cover every Morgan County release.
| Status | Best source | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Held at county jail | Jail line | Current local custody |
| Released from county jail | Sheriff release record plus court docket | Local custody ended and why |
| Transferred or discharged by GDC | GDC offender record | State custody status and dates |
| Released from federal prison | BOP locator | BOP custody ended |
| Release alert | VINE | Reporting-agency status change |
Morgan County Jail Release Path
Morgan County Jail is the only local detention facility in the project facility map. GDC's location directory classifies it as a county jail, not a state prison. It holds local arrestees, pretrial detainees, people serving short terms, and people awaiting transfer. A person leaving by bond or court order remains tied to the jail record and court file. A person transferred to GDC moves into the state search path.
The jail's appearance in GDC's location directory does not turn it into a GDC institution. That listing supplies facility information, while state-prison release fields come from the separate offender search. Use the county jail phone and request form for local custody. Use GDC only when a sentence or transfer placed the person under state correctional control. This distinction prevents a missing GDC result from being mistaken for proof that no Morgan County release occurred.
Transportation After Morgan County Release
Morgan County's public transportation is advance-reservation, door-to-door service. It is not an on-demand jail shuttle. The county instructs riders to call (706) 342-4052 by the stated deadline for next-day trips. Because the jail on Monticello Road is separate from the downtown court offices, transportation should be arranged before an expected release when possible.
Morgan County Jail Turnover Context
The county's HB1105 reports give aggregate booking totals, not names or release counts. They reported 237 bookings in 2025's fourth quarter, 219 in 2026's first quarter, and 216 in 2026's second quarter. These totals explain why a date-bounded request is more useful than a broad demand for records.
Morgan County Release Court Records
Magistrate Court handles first appearances, bond hearings, preliminary hearings, and certain misdemeanors. The Clerk of Superior and Juvenile Court search supplies the longer case trail for Superior Court matters. A bond release can therefore appear in a Magistrate record before the final case outcome appears in Superior Court. Search both when the jail entry does not explain the full result.
Detainers After Morgan County Release
Morgan County's quarterly HB1105 reporting documents local LESC inquiries and DHS detainers. The reports list aggregate activity, not individual people. Eight DHS detainers appeared in the first quarter of 2026 and 16 in the second. A detainer can turn an expected local release into continued custody or transfer. Ask the jail whether another hold exists, then use the receiving agency's locator if custody moves.
The same care applies to any other-agency pickup. A release time in the county log marks the end of that jail's control, not the end of all government custody. Federal pretrial movement may involve the U.S. Marshals Service before a BOP designation appears. An immigration transfer may later be searchable through ICE by A-number and country of birth or by biographical details. If neither public locator returns a match, the court docket and the agency that recorded the transfer remain the best sources.
Person-level conclusions cannot be drawn from the quarterly totals. They provide local context only. For an individual Morgan County released inmate, request the public detainer or transfer notation attached to that booking and confirm the receiving authority. This keeps an aggregate compliance report from being mistaken for a release roster.
Keep a short record of each check. Note the agency contacted, the date of the search, the spelling and identifier used, and the status returned. Save the request confirmation and compare it with the court case number when a response arrives. If the Sheriff's Office confirms departure but the next agency has no entry yet, allow for transfer processing and ask which authority accepted custody. A later correction should be requested from the office that owns the source record. The county custodian can address a jail entry, the clerk can address a court file, and GDC can address a state offender record.
